Another Life Lost

Share
Last week, I was so deeply engrossed doing something on the laptop that I didn't hear the fight and murder happening in front of my house.

Honey Lips and his father witnessed the crime with another dozen of on-lookers.

A homeless vagrant allegedly teased a girl (harmless tease and he was under the influence) and minutes later, the girl's father came and took a swing at his head with a cutlass.  The homeless mister fell to the ground while the father ran away.  Some of the witnesses took him to the hospital.  His brain suffered a massive trauma and he passed away not long after.

The police has since been badgering my maid who didn't see anything but a guy running away.  Honey Lips and his father tried to help with the investigation.  And yesterday, the murderer father was caught after one of the other witnesses gave away his name.

All I want to ask the father is, "Why would you kill someone - someone you know is not in his senses - just because he was harmlessly teasing your daughter?  I know you have a right to be protective of your daughter but you do NOT have the right to take away a life."

What's next?  When does the stupidiy stop?

A cutlass? Are you serious?! Like a pirate cutlass?

Well there you see it; he's clearly mentally unstable. Anyone who steps out of the house waving a cutlass at a harmless homeless man is a nut.

I hate that homeless people get such a raw deal; I mean, they're already homeless. Stop piling misery on top! Over here there was a case last year (I think - I'm bad with time frames) where some drunk, ignorant idiots saw a homeless man sleeping in a doorway and set him on fire. Some people aren't fit to be called animals.

This is horrible news. I can't belive the man came out with a cutlass! Who in the world has a cutlass just kickin' it in their house!

I hope that man stays in jail for a very long time. The drunken homeless man didn't deserve to die.

Yes Magpie, a bloody cutlass. It's a common tool here.

OfficeGirl I think 99% of the local household has a cutlass! It's horrible.

Hitting/Killing a homeless man is being more than cruel. I too, wish he'll rot in jail.

Unfortunately, a lot of people view the homeless as disposable.

I'm glad you didn't have to witness that.

OH MY! How horrible! Now I don't know what a cutlass is, but maybe he didn't think the man would die. I feel like a lot of times, especially when it comes to fight, the intent wasn't to kill. Not that it makes it right, violence is never OK.

We just had a case similar over here, where to men got into it verbally and one punched the other in the head. The man ended up being severely hurt, and the man who punched him is obviously regretting the whole thing as he acted on an impulse not with an intend to really hurt. I think he should be held responsible, but at the same time.. how many boys/men don't we know who how gotten into some stupid fight out late on night? You never know what could happen. It's scary.

that is fucked. it never ceases to astound me how people can feel truly superior to others, and have the arrogance to feel righteous in attacking a harmless person.. or creature of any kind. i hope justice is served.

I can't comprehend how crazy it is. SO UNNECESSARY. Poor homeless man, hope he rests in peace and the guy is severely punished.

O.o

Someone has issues. A cutlass?! My dad would have threatened him with a baseball bat, but I do not think he would try to kill him. But hey I do not know any better.

that's horrible!

i can understand why the father would be angry, but his actions were too extreme. and now what's gonna happen to him and his daughter. sad all around

90% of the people around you own cutlasses?

*mulls this over*

Do you live on the High Seas? Or the set of Desperate Housewives (and Increasingly Desperate Househusbands)? Because otherwise this just does NOT make sense. I think you need to get out of there - anywhere homeless people get killed on the street is a dangerous...

Seems like the father was more "under the influence" than the poor homeless guy. I hope justice is served appropriately.

That was really scary. I feel sorry for the homeless guy. Don't you think the girl overreacted or exaggerated the story when she told her father about the teasing? But still, it's not right to kill a person.

Magpie My neighborhood is pretty safe as compared to other areas. The crime happened in front of my house because the victim used to sleep there... :(

Gnetch Yes I'm sure the daughter exaggerated but in any case that doesn't give the father the right to kill.
